Pre-Arrival Checklist

As you prepare to travel internationally to Andrews University, please make sure you have done the following:

  • Complete the F-1 visa and I-20 process. You can do this by following the seven I-20 and Visa Steps on the homepage, or if you are in another visa status or situation of uncertainty, call or email us so we can discuss your options.

  • Arrange housing. Make sure that you have a place to stay before you arrive. If you wait until you arrive on campus to find a place to stay, you will likely not have many options, and in some cases, you will need to stay temporarily in a hotel, which will quickly become expensive. If you are planning to stay on campus in a residence hall, please email rhhousing@liashapiro.com; if you are at least 22 years old and plan to stay off campus in a university apartment, please email universityapartments@liashapiro.com.

Note: Before you travel to Andrews, please confirm your arrival date on campus with Housing (residence halls: rhhousing@liashapiro.com / university apartments: universityapartments@liashapiro.com). While your I-20 allows you to enter the U.S. up to 30 days before the start of each semester, you will only be able to move into a residence hall or university apartment shortly before the start of each semester. Please check with Housing for specific move-in dates.

  • Follow directions from your academic department.  Your department (and academic advisor) will likely keep in contact with you as you prepare to come to the Berrien Springs campus. You can also feel free to reach out directly to your academic advisor if you have questions.

  • Arrange transportation. If you need a ride to campus from the airport, the Andrews University Office of Transportation can arrange to pick you up at the South Bend airport. For more information, please email trans@liashapiro.com.

  • Prepare your travel documents. Make sure you have all of the necessary documents before you go to the airport. In most cases, this will include a valid passport stamped with a current F-1 visa (unless you are a citizen of Canada or Bermuda), a valid Form I-20, and the I-901 SEVIS fee receipt.
